GEORGES DUBOEUF WINE BOOK AWARD OF THE YEAR
TWO BOOKS WIN FOR THE FIRST TIME
DORNENBURG & PAGE’S WHAT TO DRINK WITH WHAT YOU EAT
MELTZER’S KEYS TO THE CELLAR

New York, NY, November 16, 2006—For the first time, the Georges Duboeuf Wine Book of the Year Award is being presented to authors of two very different books. What to Drink with What You Eat, by Andrew Dornenburg & Karen Page (Bulfinch, on sale October 2, 2006, $35.00) and Keys to the Cellar, by Peter Meltzer (Wiley, September 19, 2006, $29.95) received the Georges Duboeuf Wine Book Award of the Year at the annual Beaujolais Nouveau luncheon held at InTent in New York City.

"Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg have been called “the brightest young author team on the culinary scene today” on NPR. What to Drink with What You Eat is a ground breaking food and beverage reference guide, with advice on pairing food with wine, beer, spirits, coffee, tea—even water—based on expert advice from America’s best sommeliers, chefs and fellow journalists. “Matching food and wine seems mysterious to many,” said Franck Duboeuf upon presenting the award. “Readers of this book will learn about how versatile Beaujolais is with food, and this comprehensive book is sure to guide readers to greater food and wine synergies. Dornenburg and Page, James Beard award winning authors of Becoming a Chef and Culinary Artistry live in New York City.

Bill Deutsch, CEO and Chairman of W.J. Deutsch and Sons, Ltd. noted that the decision to award two books for the first time ever was based on the changing wine market and the increasingly educated consumer. “The past 25 years have seen major changes in how people consume wine,” said Mr. Deutsch. “The standard rules constricting white wine to fish and chicken, and red wine with meat no longer apply. Today people are more sophisticated and adventurous; they are open to trying new ideas when it comes to pairing wine with food.” As wine lovers continue to break old paradigms, the auction market has seen a surge in mainstream interest. “Ten years ago you rarely heard about wine auctions,” said Bill Deutsch. “Today you hear about new auctions every week. The Keys to the Cellar shows the ever increasing trend of people’s interest and enthusiasm for wine…they are interested in both buying and selling.”

A wine critic for more than two decades, Peter Meltzer is the auction correspondent for Wine Spectator and contributing editor to Food Arts. With Keys to the Cellar, Meltzer gives oenophiles the tools to project their wine needs and plan a cellar that fits their lifestyle. Author and publisher of Passport to New York Restaurants, Peter Meltzer has been seriously collecting wine since 1982 and has over 1,000 bottles in his collection.
